Why Work?
by Dorothy L. Sayers

Spring 2011 Reading:  Why Work?

We are delighted to announce the publication of our Spring Reading on Dorothy Sayers' provocative essay Why Work?, with an introduction by David Miller, director of the Princeton University Faith and Work Initiative.

This thoughtful essay engages the fundamental question of the purpose and priority of work.  Sayers' offers a philosophy and theology of work that encourages us to view our work as “a way of life in which the nature of man should find its proper exercise and delight. ”  Our guide to Sayers' engaging essay is Dr. David Miller, who serves of the faculty of Princeton University, and as the Director of Princeton's Faith and Work Initiative.  Miller's introduction skillfully provides context for Sayers' life and thought, as well as historical background on the varying theological schools of thought on the purpose of work.

We commend Why Work?  to you as a fascinating reflection piece and excellent reading for small group discussion.  Each Reading includes a helpful group discussion guide in the back as a resource for books clubs, office retreats, and small group discussion.
